Three Rivers’ jobless rate - which includes Carroll County - increases to 10.4 percent
The Georgia Department of Labor announced today that the preliminary unemployment rate in the Three Rivers area rose to 10.4 percent in December, up two-tenths of a percentage point from 10.2 percent in November. The jobless rate in the Three Rivers area in December a year ago was 11.1 percent.
Metro Athens and Warner Robins had the lowest area rate at 7.3 percent, while metro Dalton had the highest at 12.1 percent.

Famous Chloe cat dead at 15

Chloe, the longtime feline resident of Horton’s Books & Gifts in Carrollton died at age 15 on Sunday, December 18, 2011.
A rescue cat that arrived at the doorstep of Horton’s owners in the summer of 1996, Chloe moved to the retail bookstore in the winter of 1997 and remained there until her illness necessitated her staying at her owner’s home.
