The Golden Knights ran into the GCAA’s top team last week and found the going tough. West Georgia Tech dropped the first three games of the series by scores of 9-0, 9-2 and 9-2. However, the last game Saturday had plenty of fireworks.

Jake McLinskey found himself locked in a pitcher’s duel. The sophomore right-hander allowed just one run and three hits over seven innings and the contest went into extra innings knotted at 1-1.

In the eighth inning, WGTC’s John Livaditis led off with a single and Jacob Earley followed with a walk. Blake Helton reached on a bunt to load the bases, setting the stage for Logan Tillem’s walk-off grand slam to give the Golden Knights a 5-1 victory. Richard Triplet, who pitched the eighth, got the win.

With the win, WGTC improves to 22-28 overall, 8-12 in GCAA play. With four games to play, the Golden Knights find themselves tied with Gordon for the final spot in the upcoming GCAA Tournament. The final regular season series begins at Georgia Highlands on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

The series shifts to Carrollton with a single game Friday at 1:15 p.m., followed by a doubleheader Saturday at 1:15 p.m. Home games are played at Central High School.

Should the Golden Knights clinch a spot in the tournament, it will run from May 10-13 at LakePoint in Emerson.
