Carrollton sailor part of Navy's newest submarine crew

The commissioning of the USS Washington submarine is taking place in just one week! Hospital Corpsman 1st Class Michael C. Couch is a Carrollton, Georgia Hometown Hero and is playing a pivotal role.

Petty Officer Couch is a Carrollton native who is stationed aboard USS Washington (SSN 787). He graduated from Villa Rica High School in 2008.

Couch is the sole medical provider for the 150 man crew aboard Washington. He is tasked with making decisions about every Sailor aboard the boat and their ability to deploy.

He takes great pride in making sure that his Sailors are able to care for their health.

Petty Officer Couch's grandfather served in the Army, while his father served in both the Army and the Navy.

His future goals include becoming a commissioned officer and being a Physician Assistant. He joined the Navy to travel, further his education, and serve his country.

In Petty Officer Couch's off time, he is a proud husband and father of two. During his first three years in the Navy, he was stationed with the 3rd Battalion, 8th Marines at Camp Lejeune. During that tour, he completed two combat deployments to Afghanistan.
