Wayne B. Hughes

Wayne B. Hughes, age 78, of Bremen, formerly of Douglasville, passed away Saturday, May 27, 2017. He was born in Eastaboga, Alabama on May 19, 1939 to the late Frank Leigh Hughes and the late Carol Eleanor Haynes Hughes.

He was retired from Riverside Manufacturing where he worked as a mechanic. Wayne was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps/Air Force and was Baptist by faith.

He is survived by his son, Frank B. Hughes and wife Summer; sisters, Jeanette Nabors of Anniston, Alabama, Glenda Brock and husband Russ of Bowdon, Georgia; brothers, Jerry Hughes and wife Brenda of Camp Hill, Alabama, Stanley Hughes of Charleston, South Carolina; grandchildren, Timothy Hughes, Nathaniel Hughes, Isaac Hughes.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Marie Rose.

According to his wishes he was cremated.

No services are planned at this time.

James Daniel “Danny” Terrell

James Daniel “Danny” Terrell, age 60 of Carrollton, passed away May 24, 2017. He was born July 15, 1956 in Carrollton, Georgia, the son of the late Milton Eli Terrell and Addie Inez Hall Terrell.

He was a dedicated father who loved coaching his boys in little league baseball and football, had a passion for music and in his younger years enjoyed drag racing.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by sisters, Diane Kenner and Nancy Jo Shumake; and a brother, David Terrell.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Muse Terrell of Carrollton; his sons, Joshua Terrell and Jeremy Terrell both of Carrollton; sisters, Martha Lanxton and Melany Terrell both of Carrollton; brothers, Paul Terrell and Wayne Terrell both of Carrollton; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Donald “Donny” Powers

Mr. Donald “Donny” Powers, age 67, of Carrollton, Georgia passed away on Wednesday morning May 24, 2017. He was born August 1, 1949 in Carrollton, Georgia, the son of the late Ray Joseph Powers and the late Mary Nell Alford Powers.

He was a graduate of Central High School and later graduated from West Georgia College with a Bachelor’s Degree. He was a retired manager with Atlanta Gas Light and following his retirement worked with the Benton Company. He served his country as a member of the U.S. Air Force Reserves, retiring with over twenty years of service. He attended Grace Fellowship Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Brock Powers.

Tamela Kelly Fitzpatrick

Tamela Kelly Fitzpatrick, age 51 of Carrollton, passed away Saturday, May 20, 2017. She was born November 25, 1965 in Atlanta, Georgia, daughter to the late, Heburt Kelly and Carolyn Townsend Kelly. She graduated from Pebblebrook High School and worked in the automobile industry as a team leader at Decostar.

She is survived by her husband, Sean Fitzpatrick of Carrollton; daughter, Kelly Martinez (Fredi) of Carrollton; step-children, Stephanie Fitzpatrick (Henry Brown) and Christopher Fitzpatrick; brother, Shane Kelly of Kennesaw; four grandchildren, Kaliyah Brown, Chloe Brown, Carmen Martinez, and Kori Martinez all of Carrollton, GA; and two step-grandchildren, William Brown and Cameron Brown.

Funeral service will be conducted Friday, May 26, 2017 at 10:00 AM from Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel with Rev. Andy Smith officiating. Interment will be Friday, May 26, 2017 at 12:30 PM in the River View Memorial Park Cemetery in Atlanta, Georgia.

Christopher Howard “Chris” Warren

Christopher Howard “Chris” Warren, age 46 of Carrollton, passed away. He was born in Carrollton, Georgia on June 24, 1970.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Brenda Gail Perry Kittrell; and maternal grandmother, Doris Wilson Perry.

He is survived by a sister, Brooke Kittrell of Bowdon; brother, Danny Warren of Carrollton; and four nephews, Justin Warren, Dustin Warren, Toby Warren, and Asa Kittrell.

Graveside service will be conducted Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at 2:30 PM at Carroll Memory Gardens with Min. Barry Shoemake officiating.

The family will receive friends at Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM the day of service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Susan B. Komen Foundation at www.susanbkomen.org , in memory of his mom.

Inez Cantrell Thompson

Inez Cantrell Thompson, age 88, of Carrollton, Georgia passed away Saturday, May 20, 2017.

Mrs. Thompson was born in Carroll County, Georgia on December 27, 1928, the daughter of the late Homer James Cantrell and Lula Shadinger Cantrell. She was a homemaker and a member of Peachtree Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Carole Thompson of Carrollton; daughters and son-in-law, Janice and Tom Cocklereece of Marietta, Georgia, Meline Lewis of LaGrange, Georgia; grandchildren, Bryan Thompson, April Odom, Matthew Cocklereece, Dana Perry, Jonathan Eason, Melanie Speck; 13 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.

The family will receive friends at Almon Funeral Home on Sunday, May 21, 2017 from 1 p.m. until the funeral hour.

Funeral services will be Sunday, May 21, 2017, at 2:30 p.m. from the chapel of Almon Funeral Home with Rev. Tony Thompson, Rev. Brian Jackson, Rev. Jonathan Eason officiating.

Donald J. Watters

Donald J. Watters, 79, passed away Thursday, May 18, 2017, at his residence in Carrollton, Georgia. Don was born November 7, 1937 to the late Avery Hunt and Ethel O’Connor Watters in Rome, Georgia, the youngest of five children. He graduated from Rome High School in 1955, attended West Georgia College 1957-1958 and Georgia Tech.

Don served with the U.S. Army from 1959-1961. He met his bride, Carolyn Ann Toles, in Rome, Georgia, and they married in 1966. They moved to Carrollton in 1976. He was employed by Battey Machinery Company and retired in 2001 after 32 years of service.

He was actively involved in the outdoors hunting, fishing, gardening and watching sports, especially high school football. In retirement, he found his passion in golf at Oak Mountain Golf Course and enjoyed his weekly outings with senior golf friends. A member of Tabernacle Baptist Church since 1976, he served as an usher-greeter and enjoyed the Ted Robinson Sunday School Class.

Frances Helene Lankford Martin

Mrs. Frances Helene Lankford Martin, age 76 of Villa Rica, Georgia died Thursday, May 18, 2017.

Mrs. Martin was born in Beaumont, Texas on August 20, 1940, the daughter of the late Autry Lankford and Helene Belk Lankford.

She was retired executive assistant with Jordache and member of the Carrollton First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Don Martin; sons and daughter-in-law, John Lewis of Ft. Worth, Texas, Richard and Linda Lewis of Fayetteville, Georgia; daughter, Laurie Keirsey of Kennesaw, Georgia; grandchildren, Wesley Lewis, Taylor Kearns, Katy Lewis, Dalton Keirsey, Emily Lewis; great grandchild, Carter Kearns; brother, Pete Lankford of Houston, Texas. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Joan Lankford, Jane McCauley and Bitsy Goerner.

The family will receive friends at Almon Funeral Home on Monday, May 22 from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m.

Frances Smith

Frances Smith, age 74 of Roopville, died Wednesday, May 17, 2017. She was born on June 14, 1942 in Roanoke, Alabama, the daughter of the late Trot Birdsong and Elizabeth G. Birdsong.

She was retired, having worked for over 41 years with BBI and she was a member of Veal Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Harold Smith; and daughter-in-law, Deneen A. Smith.

Survivors include her son, Gary A. Smith and his wife, Donna Corn Smith of Roopville; grandchildren, Michael A. Smith (Beverly) of Franklin, GA, and Bridget A. Thomas (Michael) of Clem; sisters, Betty Pool (Robert) of Roanoke, AL and Jean Heard of Roanoke, AL; six great grandchildren, four step-great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Michael R. Perry

Michael R. Perry, age 56, of Carrollton, Georgia entered his heavenly home on Tuesday morning, May 16, 2017. He was born April 22, 1961 in Atlanta, Georgia, the son of the late Albert Perry and the late Ethel Mary Floyd Perry.

He worked in construction for thirty-two years and was employed with Tiernan & Patrylo, Inc. He was a member of the Goshen Masonic Lodge #71 F&AM, and a member of Rotherwood Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Micky Silvers and Johnny Silvers.

Survivors include his wife, Denise Gilley Perry of Carrollton; son, Dustin Perry, also of Carrollton; sisters: Mildred Singleton of Royston, Georgia, Bobbie Jo Martin of Toccoa, Georgia, Peggy Winters of Lylery, Georgia, Cathy Jacobs of Adairsville, Georgia, and Shirley L. Perry of Toccoa; brothers: Richard Silvers of Toccoa, and Rick Perry of Carnesville, Georgia; and nieces and nephews.
