Leila Griffith Wiley

Leila Griffith Wiley, age 81 of Roopville, Georgia passed away Sunday, July 23, 2017 at her residence. She was born June 14, 1936 in Atlanta, Georgia to the late Clarence Franklin Griffith and Mary Lou Norris Griffith.

She is a Roosevelt High School graduate and after many years of service as a telephone operator with AT&T and Southern Bell she retired. She was of the Christian faith and supported a number of charities, especially those involving children. She was also a supporter of the Oral Roberts University, was a member of the Red Hat Society, a Carrollton Art Guild Member, and enjoyed spending time with friends at the Carrollton and Bowdon Senior Center.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Lisa Darlene Thompson; and two sisters, Joy Powell and Bobbie Kimble.

Donna Shoemake Coveney

Mrs. Donna Shoemake Coveney, age 76, of Carrollton, Georgia passed away on Monday morning, July 24, 2017. She was born October 14, 1940 in Carrollton, Georgia, the daughter of the late Henry “Pat” Shoemake and the late Nora Mildred Akin Shoemake.

She was a 1958 graduate of Carrollton High School and attended Massey Business College. She was retired, having worked for Lockheed in Marietta and for IBM as a private secretary. She was Baptist by faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Shannon Patrick Coveney.

Survivors include her brother and sister-in- law, Garon & Sybil Shoemake of Roopville, Georgia; two nephews; one niece; and a host of cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at 4:00 PM from Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel with Minister Barry Shoemake officiating. Music will be rendered by Mr. Donnie Muse. Interment will follow in West Georgia Memorial Park.

Tony Allen Patterson, Sr.

Tony Allen Patterson, Sr. age 72 of Rossville, Georgia passed away Friday, July 21, 2017.

Mr. Patterson was born in Hartselle, Alabama on March 3, 1945, the son of the late Joe Patterson and Elsie Kendall Faison. Early in his life he worked for the Monsanto Company in Decatur, AL and later branched out and started Executive Sound where he did sound and recordings strictly for Amway. He also owned and operated Alarm and Security Design.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Allen and Monica Patterson of Cullman, AL; daughter and son-in-law, Deanna and Scott Kiser of Carrollton; grandchildren, Ansleigh, Lindsay, Danielle and Preston Kiser, MacKenzie and Taylor Patterson; brothers, Larry and Dan Patterson. He resided in Chattanooga, TN for the last years of his life with his companion, Debra Jordan.

The family will receive friends at Almon Funeral Home on Sunday, July 23, 2017 from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m.

Anna V. Williamson

Anna V. Williamson, age 87 of Carrollton, Georgia passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2017.

Mrs. Williamson was born in Tyrrell County, North Carolina on May 18, 1930, the daughter of the late Charles Anson Voliva and Eva Swain Voliva. She was an LPN for Tanner Medical for 31 years and was a member of Carrollton Fellowship Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and going to church.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Albert L. and Joy Rhodes… of Elizabeth City, North Carolina, John B. and Mali Rhodes of Hampton, Virginia, Raymond L. and Pam Seagroves of Carrollton; 10 grandchildren; several great grandchildren and sister-in-law, Virginia Voliva. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie E. Williamson; son, Ryan A. Rhodes; stepson, Terry Williamson and a brother, William B. Voliva.

The family will receive friends at Almon Funeral Home on Thursday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Steve M. Almon

Steve M. Almon, age 72 of Carrollton, passed away July 19, 2017. He was born June 12, 1945 in Carroll County, Georgia to the late Alvin R. Almon and Molene Allen Almon. He retired from AT&T and formerly worked for Ragsdale Heating & Air. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Rachel Wilkinson Almon.

The family will receive friends Sunday, July 23, 2017 from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM at Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel. In keeping with his wishes, his body will be cremated and no service at this time.

Kathryn Boggs Patrick

Mrs. Kathryn Boggs Patrick of Carrollton, Georgia passed away on Thursday evening, July 13, 2017. She was born in Randolph County, Alabama, the daughter of the late James William Boggs, and the late Ora Kuglar Boggs.

She was retired from Peoples Bank and was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church in Burwell.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Everett Patrick. Survivors include step-daughter, Pamela Sue Patrick McNeese; sister-in- law, Yvonne Boggs; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be conducted Sunday, July 16, 2017 at 2:00 PM from Carroll Memory Gardens with Mr. Scott Eason officiating.

Peggie Ann McCurdy

Peggie Ann McCurdy, age 80, of Douglasville passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2017. She was born in Raleigh, North Carolina on October 25, 1936, daughter of the late Frank Cleveland and Cleora Smith Cleveland.

Peggie grew up in Marietta, Georgia and attended Marietta High School. She started her career with Western Electric and retired from Lucent Technologies as a quality auditor.

Peggie is survived by her daughter: Cathy Royal and her husband, Ronald; son: Chuck McCurdy and his wife,… Marie, and son, Larry McCurdy: grandchildren: Matthew Bearden and his wife, Michelle, Lewis Starr, Michael Starr, Thomas Parris, Jordon Parris, Elana Rios and her husband, Daniel; great grandchildren: Brannon and Maddie.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her sister, Agnes Brand.

Per her wishes, she will be cremated and a private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Melba Price

Melba passed away on Monday, Jul 10, 2017 at Carrollton Manor Nursing Home.  She was born on Mar 20, 1930 in Carroll County, Georgia, daughter to the late Eleanor Knowles and Gladys Howard Knowles.  She was a homemaker and Baptist by faith.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband, Bobby S. Norton; her husband, Darvy Ellis Price; son, Stan Norton; sister, Ann Knowles; and two brothers, Steve Knowles and Junior Knowles.   

She is survived by her son, David Norton of Riverview; sister, Billie Lovvorn of Atlanta; brother, Roger (Ruth) Knowles of Carrollton; and two granddaughters, Cori and Cortney Norton.

In keeping with her family’s wishes, her body has been cremated and a service will be announced at a later date.
