The West Georgia Technical College men’s basketball team enters a pivotal weekend with back-to-back home games Friday at Saturday. Friday night’s contest is against non-conference foe Sound Doctrine which will set the table for Saturday’s conference showdown with Middle Georgia Tech.

Middle Georgia Tech is undefeated in conference play (5-0) and sits a half-game ahead of West Georgia Tech (10-12, 5-1) in the conference standings.

WEST GEORGIA TECH MEN 2-0 IN CONFERENCE AFTER 86-72 VICTORY OVER GEORGIA NORTHWESTERN

CARROLLTON, Ga. – The West Georgia Technical College Golden Knights men’s basketball team defeated conference rival Georgia Northwestern 86-72 Saturday night to remain unbeaten in conference play (6-10, 2-0). The win completed a season sweep of the Bobcats, as West Georgia Tech won an earlier meeting between the two schools, 84-82.

Georgia Northwestern dropped to 6-8, 0-3.

WEST GEORGIA TECH WOMEN WIN FOURTH-STRAIGHT, 62-46 OVER GEORGIA NORTHWESTERN

CARROLLTON, Ga. – Cherish Evans scored 26 points to lead the West Georgia Technical College Golden Knights women’s basketball team to an impressive 62-46 victory over Georgia Northwestern in conference action Saturday night.

The win improves WGTC to 7-10, 2-0, and the Golden Knights have now won four consecutive games.

West Georgia Tech led 22-17 at halftime and stretched its lead to as many as 19 points in the second half behind the hot shooting of Evans and a stifling defense which held the Lady Bobcats to just 20-percent shooting (17-of-85).

SECOND HALF PREVIEW: GOLDEN KNIGHTS MEN’S BASKETBALL LOOKS TO MAKE A RUN IN SEASON’S SECOND HALF; BYRON WILLIAMS RETURNS TO THE LINE-UP

CARROLLTON, Ga. – The West Georgia Technical Golden Knights have completed the pre-Christmas slate and will head into January with a 5-10 record. The Golden Knights played a tough non-region schedule in which Division I junior colleges accounted for eight of the ten losses.

“We struggled handling the size of the Division I schools,” second-year head coach Niki Okolovitch said. “We could hang with them for a good portion of the game but eventually their size would wear us down.”

GOLDEN KNIGHTS MEN’S BASKETBALL OPENS CONFERENCE SLATE AT GEORGIA NORTHWESTERN TONIGHT

CARROLLTON, Ga. – Following a grueling pre-conference schedule which included several JUCO Division 1 schools, the West Georgia Technical College men’s basketball squad will enter NJCAA Region 17 conference play tonight with a road trip to Rossville, Ga., to take on Georgia Northwestern Technical College. Tip time is set for 6 p.m.

West Georgia Tech (4-9) will look to break a three-game losing streak. The Bobcats are 5-5 overall, and 0-1 in the conference. According to second-year head coach Niki Okolovitch, the real season begins with the conference-opener.
