BMS students study fractions, cook

Sixth grade students in Remonica Stephens' classes at Bowdon Middle School have been working on fractions. For the end of unit Performace Task, each class created No-Bake Dessert Recipes. The students had to convert fractions to either increase or decrease the recipes before they could make their masterpiece. It was a real world use of fractions and measurement. After making their desserts, the students enjoyed their creations.

Deborah York

Our Star this week is Deborah York, office manager at Atlanta West Animal Hospital in Villa Rica. Deborah has worked there for thirteen years, and has progressively become more involved in animal rescue.

She recently received a rescue licence with the state of Georgia. Deborah is a founding member of The American Veterinary Animal Welfare Foundation , which features a weekly pet, here at StarNews Online.

A true animal lover, Deborah has eighteen pets of her own (all rescues), including birds, dogs, and cats. She urges anyone looking for a pet to take the adoption route.
